Our Story
Wae Lolos Tourism Village Profile
Wae Lolos Tourism Village is located in Sano Nggoang District, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The village has an area of 10.1 km² with an elevation of 466 meters above sea level (masl) and a population of around 700 people spread across four hamlets, namely Langgo Hamlet, Rangat Hamlet, Tembel Hamlet, and Ndengo Hamlet.
In 2021, Wae Lolos Village was officially designated as a tourist village through the Decree of the Head of the Tourism Office of West Manggarai Regency Number 106/KEP/HK/2021. The village is inhabited by two main tribes, the Mawu and the Liang Mboha. The Mawu tribe is spread across three hamlets, namely Langgo Hamlet, Tembel Hamlet, and Ndengo Hamlet, while the Liang Mboha tribe lives in Rangat Village. Despite coming from different backgrounds, the two tribes live in harmony and uphold Manggarai cultural values that strengthen brotherhood. Inter-tribal relations are further strengthened through the practice of inter-tribal marriage, where members of the Mawu Tribe often marry members of the Liang Mboha Tribe and vice versa.
Wae Lolos Village is an expansion of Cunca Lolos Village and was officially established in 2000. The majority of villagers work as farmers in various agricultural sectors, such as rice fields and cocoa, clove, candlenut, vanilla, coffee and durian plantations. The main agricultural products that become superior commodities include vanilla, candlenuts, cloves, and coffee. These commodities are not only used to fulfill daily needs but are also the main source of income for the community, including in financing their children’s education up to university level.
To explore the tourist attractions in this village, Langgo Hamlet is the main entrance. From this hamlet, there are trekking trails that connect various waterfalls in the area. In addition, vehicle access roads are available to facilitate tourists who are unable to go on trekking trips for a long duration.
